Grace Lost The Grace Series Book 1 eBook M Lauryl Lewis

This was a Zombie Soap Opera. There was no real overall story arc. Just a day in the life of Zoe during the apocalypse. Zoe isn't a good heroine. I get it. I would be freaked out too, but a month later...you need to get over it. Emilie watched her brother get torn apart and was chased and she handles herself real well.

I did like the little twist on traditional zombies. They have a bit of brains (harharhar). They are smart enough to set up traps and use other slower zombies as well as even some humans as bait. Scares the crap outta me. :-P Also Zoe's little zombie talent. It's not enough for me to want to continue the series though

Grace Lost The Grace Series Book 1 eBook M Lauryl Lewis Reviews

I enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading the next in the series. Some situations seemed a little too convenient, but overall it was well written, with plenty of action, and I felt drawn into the story. I do like the interesting twist regarding the zombies, and also involving the lead character, although I won't go into it and spoil it for others. This book was a quick read that kept me turning the pages and I didn't want to put it down. In fact, I read it in one afternoon! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance, or zombie "lite" books, as it is definitely written with a female-centric slant. I'm more of a hard-core zombie fan but this book didn't turn me off like Rhiannon Frater's books did for example. (Those books are just juvenile garbage!) M. Laurel Lewis just might be the next top female zombie writer!
I got Grace Lost (book one) May 2015. I had never read one on Zombies before and since it was free and I was curious, I ordered it..! As I read on, the storyline became more interesting and it seemed I could actually visualize the scenes and Characters... ! I couldn't put it down.. When the book ended I knew I had to continue the Series because of new characters, how they became a part of the story and how their lives intertwined.. I was so involved into the Grace Series that I bought books 2 thru 5.. I am so anxious to read book 6 that I contacted Lauryl Lewis to find out when it would be available. She responded, I know she has a Son who was going through a medical problem, I respect that, so I'll wait... ! Hope and Pray her Son is better ♥
This series has gotten off with a bang. The story begins with old friends and a disaster that so far is not explained...but isn't cogent to the unfolding story thus far. While new friends are made along the way, trying to learn to survive in a new, deadlier world brings new dynamics and new challenges that none of the survivors are prepared for. Very real life reactions, which is a welcomed change from other apocalyptic stories.
I'm a huge zombie lover. Always have been since I watched the Dairy Farm episode of The Real Ghostbusters and the Night remake reignited it when I was 14.

Grace Lost tells the tale of Zoe and her long time best friend Boggs who, after a night of catching up in a cabin, find themselves facing the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. Upon meeting up with a former military nurse named Gus, and later a woman named Emily who lost her younger brother to the zombies while on a camping trip, they set out trying to find somewhere safe. Which is only made worse with the fact that some of these zombies aren't dumb...they have enough brain power left to set traps and think to a certain level.

Like true zombie form, M. Lauryl Lewis has no qualms about killing characters, even major. There were two characters we meet I was hoping would have stayed longer in the series, but that's the way it goes in zombie fiction.

I'll always enjoy a good zombie story, but one "twist" I liked was the fact that Zoe finds herself with an almost psychic connected to the zombies due to a hip wound getting infected with whatever is waking up the dead and will sometimes get visions...only these visions are literally seeing from a zombie POV and "hearing" their thoughts.

It may be explained in the sequels, but one thing that's left unanswered is pretty big. You have your regular zombies, but there's also another group of zombies that are "smart" and show a level of thinking. Mainly using bait and setting traps for people. There's no reason given for why some zombies have this level of thinking while others don't. I don't think even the characters give it any thought.

On the other hand, one thing that rubbed me a bit the wrong were the women being treated like incompetent children at points like they needed to be babysat. I know it wasn't the intent, but it read like such. I'm not saying they needed to be Ellen Ripley in Aliens ripping off zombie heads and doing backflips off walls, but still.

All in all, I enjoyed Grace Lost and probably will pick up the sequels at some point.
This is a book about a zombie apocalypse with a twist. Most of the story is pretty predictable. Lots of cursing and lots of sex. Not really my kind of book.
The book, storyline, characters, scenery - all of it - seemed realistic. In a lot of apocalyptic stories, the main characters are heroic and larger than life; but in this book, these are all normal young adults with normal jobs, likes, dislikes, fears, strengths and weaknesses. Possibly, the author made the women a little TOO dependant on the men, BUT the women are learning new skills and growing emotionally stronger. And, again, these characters ARE realistic, even if the women start out kind of 'girly'. I know women JUST like these, so can easily imagine them in this situation.
I'm definitely intrigued by the main female character, and can't wait to see where the author is going with her situation.
Overall, this is an excellent story, and a real page turner! I had a difficult time putting it down.
