I usually like to read anything by Eve Langlais and have never been disappointed -- until now. Although the storyline is somewhat unique, the writing style is too "tongue in cheek" for me (almost to the point of hyperbole). I didn't like the scenes involving the other romance writers either. I think that if Eve had written those scenes more realistically or maybe included more real-life details about the authors, their appearance in the story wouldn't have bothered me. But the way these scenes were written, I just felt like she was only making a mediocre attempt at writing them or that they purposely lacked the usual depth she gives to her characters. And if that's the case, then what was the point?~Spoiler Alert ~
I also didn't like the hero that much. He's just a misogynistic jerk who is completely okay with treating women like objects to be used and he doesn't hesitate to deliver them to be raped and sold into slavery because women are only good for pleasure (although this slavery is thinly veiled as "mating"). He begrudgingly treats the heroine a little better, but I think that was as much because she confused him as she convinced him to do the right thing. He still didn't cherish her like one would hope, nor was he particularly caring beyond being possessive, which we all know is not the same thing as being loving.
It also bothered me that the other women that had been kidnapped with the heroine WERE sold into slavery and we never hear anything else about them other than a conversation between two of the hero's fellow pirates admitting that they've been "sampling the inventory" so to speak. And the idea that women would be willing to be sold into slavery for a shot at one of these big purple warriors is somewhat insulting and repugnant. I know it was supposed to be funny, but it missed the mark as far as I'm concerned. I'm sorry to say this, but I truly feel this is one story that could be skipped altogether (even if you are a diehard Eve Langlais fan).

Reader Abduction Alien Abduction Book 7 edition by Eve Langlais Romance eBooks Reviews
I loved reading this book! I will never look at some of the authors the same again!! Now if you see me constantly wearing a foil hat but then taking it off again at a convention you will only understand if you have read the book. Although it sounds like I might have already been taken and maybe I'm now in on the plot? Is that the reason I made it to RTC the first year but not the second? Overall this is a great read if you love Eve Langlais and purple mercenaries I do recommend you read the other books in the series in order to fully enjoy this one!
Seventh book in the Alien Abduction series.
I disliked how the author injected herself and other real authors into the story. Generally, this can introduce an interesting twist into a fantasy. The impression I got was that the author enables the abduction of her fans in return for being allowed to write romances about the abductions. This just seems wrong on so many levels.
Other than that, the story was okay but not up to the standards of other books I have read by her.
I've enjoyed the previous books in this series with a grain of salt. They're not meant to be taken too seriously. This one fell flat as a pancake. The premise was rather eye-rolling and felt forced. There was no character development. The H is an ass and doesn't redeem himself in the end. The h was better, but still annoying in her waffling. The story felt like part of it was missing. I had preordered this when it came out, although it took me two years to read. Now that I have a bad taste in my mouth, I rather wish I hadn't bothered.
Ah, Eve Langlais, another jaunt through the alien impossible. What can I say. Have a drink. Have another. You need to be a little silly to digest this silly tale.
Purple alien, Phyr and a couple of sidekicks have conspired with this author to make away with a number of her single fans that come to a ‘Romancing the Capital’ convention. Mistaking the purple pirate for the entertainment, Brigitte, the co-ordinator for this little event is swept away with a number of other women to be sold on the market at Aressotle because they don’t have enough women to marry and procreate with.
The purple pirates while being misogynistic AH's manage to be somewhat likeable, naïve - stupid when it comes to women; violent and possessive but they do manage to avoid raping their victims which is handy if you want to get women on your side. All the women are of age which is apparently important – at least to purple aliens of Aressotle - and all is done with consent even if induced by coercion – in Brigitte’s case that is – clothes and freedom of the ship for a blowjob *shakes head* Really! Not sure about the other women completely, but at least a couple seemed to be more than happy to oblige just for the hell of it. Apparently present single women with a purple alien of masculine proportions and they all turn into alien groupies.
I loved the beginning of the story, the refreshing take on the alien invasion of the convention for alien lovers of Eve Langlais books. “We all love purple!” they cry. It was fun. And then of course it turned into a space romp complete with laser fights, further abductions, unexpected attachments, bad boy behaviour, a feisty heroine who tells him where to get off, until she doesn’t, and mind blowing… well you can guess the rest.
It was fun and silly, but I had to be drunk to avoid what in reality it was making light of.
Abduction and coercion into marriage. If I think about it too much, the premise is actually really shameful. However in the light in which it was written – it’s not a piece of literary writing advocating the right of men to abduct women for their own purpose – it’s just a silly romantic fantasy and given that, I can only rate it on my enjoyment factor at the time that I read it.
I liked all the ones before this one but this wasn't good. The abducting of aliens at a convention and the author being complicit was horrid with no fun. Once we get over the beginning, the two main characters didn't have much chemistry as he is always going to sell her. She ends up wanting to stay with him? Why? Because he is sexy? Wow, I just didn't like the whole premise and didn't enjoy it at all.
