Pure Terra Elan McVoy Books

The plot of Pure is mostly trivial, in terms of the Big Social Issues, and the characters are anything but compelling, but that's not what earned this book a 2-star review. Specifically, the Kindle edition of Pure has somewhat-frequent typographic errors that make reading harder, such as (particularly) the note Morgan leaves Tabitha on the Monday after the dance that opens the novel. On a better work, the errors might be forgivable, but a plot as uncompelling as Pure needs a careful proofreader to justify the money spent on the book.

Pure Terra Elan McVoy Books Reviews

Oh, oh. I thought I was going to love this book so much. The description sounded so great and, what's more, it takes place in the town I live in! As I read I recognized several landmarks and that was indeed a very enjoyable part of the novel. I also really loved Tabitha's character. Tabitha doesn't quite know what she believes and that makes her a very realistic character. She struggles with realistic issues, like what to do when your best friends are fighting and whether or not sex before marriage is that serious of an issue. Tabs is a little more religious than I am, but I was happy she had beliefs to stand up for, even when it came to her parents. Tabs really was the shining star of the book.

But there were things I didn't enjoy about Pure. First and foremost - the high school girl drama. Tabitha's friend Morgan came off as very intolerant. It's great to have your own morals and do what you believe, so in Morgan's case I'm all for her wearing a purity ring and avoiding sex like the plague until marriage. But just because her friend decided not to make the same decision doesn't mean the should stop being friends. Morgan got on my nerves, even more so when it became clear that her decision was going to cause the group to fall apart. I wanted to shake each and every one of those girls and say, "You're over thinking this!"

True confession when I was in high school I craved drama, although I sought it out in other ways than in Pure. Regardless, I felt like I thrived on the drama, but at this point in my life (I just turned twenty-six) I'm over it. I hate drama of all kinds. High school drama, work drama, wedding planning drama... it's so unnecessary. And that's why I was disappointed with Pure, not because the writing was bad or the characters were awful (they weren't) but because I'm too old for this.

Two stars. I'm sad I didn't like Pure, but I really do think this is all on me, not the book. If I weren't so removed from high school and its dramatic ways, I would have enjoyed Pure much more. If you like YA contemporaries about tricky subjects, Pure is a book you should definitely check out.
I started reading this book thinking it would be good for me to read as a 14 year old girl who has made that promise to herself and God. I could not finish it, in fact, I could only force myself to page 30. I do not myself have a ring to symbolize my purity, so the first scene was confusing to me. The girl who lost her ring was too materialistic abput it. Your ring is not your purity.
I also couldn't connect with any of the girls. They were very worldly for christian girls. I felt like they were more interested in doing their hair and nails and make up than in wat God has to say. It didn't make sense. They were pining for guys but it wasn't clear if they were actually looking for a man to marry or just 'having fun while they were young'. If they listenex to God's word, they would know that they should be focusing on Him in order to make a man a godly wife when He sees fit.
Then there is the love interest. First of all, she doesn't know if he is christian. Second of all, he kisses her the second time he sees her. Third of all, SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW IF HE'S CHRISTIAN!!! Why would you put heavy consideration on him if she doesn't even know that?
Over all this book just erked me. It didn't all make sense to me and I couldn't finish it. Especially with that tidbit that their youth group supported homosexuals. Oh, and on last thing not really having to do with the book as much as one of the reviews I read it is possible to stay pure until marriage no matter what century it is. I will even if no one else does. If you can't but you wanted to, you didn't want it more than popularity or whatever you did it for. God loves you more than any man could. Which would you choose?
I loved this book. At first i was apprehensive after reading the back cover, but i took a chance and it was worth it. Though this book is centered around purity rings, it's also about friendship and no matter what happens, through thick and thin, the bond will always be there. Truly love the love story between the Tabitha and Jake.
It was a good book the girls were friends who all had purity rings one screws it up by sleeping with her bf and the all choose sides and are not friends any longer and they have to figure out a way to get past it and forgive each other
The plot of Pure is mostly trivial, in terms of the Big Social Issues, and the characters are anything but compelling, but that's not what earned this book a 2-star review.
