Cold Fury A Cold Fury Novel TM Goeglein Books
Cold Fury is a fast paced read which throws you straight into the nitty gritty past of Chicago, as well as bringing it all to the future for one gal, our protagonist Sara Jane Rispoli. A typical junior girl in high school. She is concerned with boys and normal school problems. Growing up as many do in a very tightly structured family who have been baking for Chicago since the early 20th century. Little did she know her family was part of the mob with a history going back to the time of Al Capone and some weird curse and the girl has been training as a boxer (deep breath)Did you just squeal a wee bit?
OH do not even tell me that kind of combination doesn’t get you all worked up!! I was so excited to read this series after hearing others talk about it. I married into the modern mob on the pacific coast. Obviously nothing like Sara Jane’s world but it always gets me excited to hear about that. I also am a huge fan of gangster movies. This was like reading a modern day young adult mixed in with a bit of noir-style story telling, some funny moments (ok a lot of funny moments) and topping it off with a possible paranormal secret weapon (I cannot tell you or even give you a hint! Let’s just say I have been caught with Cold Fury!)
The world building was amazing. Sure, it was based on actual places but I was able to see and feel exactly what the characters were feeling. I held my breath, felt my panic rising, cringed and gasped along with all the action. This is such an amazing start to the series. I read this from start to finish and forced myself to use book two as a reward for finishing work the next day. Yep, I am comparing this to bacon or chocolate, people.
Nothing says serious like Bacon & Chocolate!
My one issue is tagline. Jason Bourne Meets the Sopranos? Nope, nada… not even! Comparing it like that is selling the story short. Sara is no Jason and the Chicago family … well they were not clichéd versions of mobsters. They were the real deal. Sara Jane is an incredible heroine, a great friend, a damaged teen (like any other) and even with her being love-struck she manages to make the decisions which need to be made. I have to say I was not completely sold when I read the synopsis for the series. But after being poked and told I would fall in love with it I took the plunge and man.. come on in the water It’s warm and I have cookies straight from the oven which I promise no real rats were harmed in the making of these cookies! Now calm down, these are bad ass ninja rats that were trained … oh go read the book! You will not be disappointed. In fact read the whole series!
Over all I would give this a 4.5. Rated as my experience and love of a good story. I feel deep and hard into the world of Sara Jane and Dough, the whole Cold Fury, all of it.

Cold Fury A Cold Fury Novel TM Goeglein Books Reviews
Really loved the story and the blending of histrical facts and historical fiction to a modern time.
Great entertaining read.
I have enjoyed this book from the start. But, I bought it for my granddaughter. I read about it in our local newspaper and heard that the author was going to speak at one of our middle schools and was doing book signings. I was thinking when my granddaughter arrived it would be fun to get it signed and meet the author. We never went. After the first chapter I was surprised at the language usage. I felt it was too much for a youth to read. I would rather not read it myself. Anyway, what I am saying is the book is excellent. I love how the family was so close and Sara Jane's feelings come out so well. But, I am sorry I cannot give this to my granddaughter.
Book Review Cold Fury
Vaibhav Vagal
Sara Jane Rispoli is no ordinary teenager. While she is worried about the regular stuff-boys, friends, and the upcoming school dance, she also has to contend with situations nobody her age should. Coming home after school one day, she finds her front door ajar and the house ransacked. While investigating, she is ambushed by a large man in a black ski mask. Now on the run from a masked assassin, rogue cops, and her uncle, Sara Jane is chased and attacked at every turn, fighting back with cold fury as she searches for her family. Cold Fury, by T.M. Goeglein is an action-packed thriller with many twists and turns. This is the first book of Goeglein's breath-taking trilogy.
However, this book had quite a few aspects, which was disappointing. One of them was the depth and portrayal of the characters, While Sara Jane's uncle and his suspicious wife serve their intended purpose as the novel's main antagonist, and their motivations are not clear for the reader. Why do they desperately want to kill Sara Jane? Sara Jane herself is never really a protagonist readers will fully support, as she seems more interested in cracking corny jokes, than trying to save her family. Throughout the novel there are sad moments that would have devastated anybody in real life, but not in the book. Sara Jane's emotions feel fake, as Goeglein did not put enough time and effort into making Sara Jane's emotions more realistic. For a 13+ book, which the author himself rated, the book's language seems extremely childish, and below any normal eight grader's reading level. "I have good hair and acceptable skin, but my nose is Roman, as in it's roamin' all over my face, and I plan to do something about it." (2) Another reason, why I did not enjoy the book was the mass information given to the reader. There is quite a few information given about the history of the mob. The author obviously is very knowledgeable in this area, and lets the reader know it. However, at times, this book felt like a history lesson, instead of a thriller. Some of the relationships in this book did not feel genuine such as the relationship between Sara and Max. They only watched a few movies together, and talked on the phone, but yet, Sara said she loved Max, and would go anywhere in the world with him. This was too much "love" for so little time spent together.
In conclusion, I did not enjoy this book at all. At times, this book was suspenseful, and put me on the edge of my seat, but at other times, this novel had me skipping pages. The author putting more thought and effort into this book could improve this book. For me, the writing style was a major factor in my discontent of this book. I would not recommend this book to anybody in middle school, however this book would be good for someone looking for a quick and easy read.
this series was a gift for my granddaughter...she loves them!
I love this trilogy and I am having a great time seeing how Sarah Jane works through everything that is thrown at her while she searches for her family.
I really enjoyed this book and the heroine. I liked her thought process and I really liked the mystery about her family and the secret little world that they live in - normal on the outside and trap doors, secret passages, special powers and passwords on the inside. The author does a great job of creating that secret world. Can't wait for the next book.
