Secretariat Reborn A Christian Roberts Thriller Susan Klaus Books
I am seriously amazed at the high reviews given this book by other readers. I gave it two stars because I did find it interesting to learn about the horse racing industry, which I am totally unfamiliar with except for the triple crown races. However, that is about as far as it goes for me.A totally new horse owner receives an outstanding colt as a gift from his dying father, then gets swindled out of the horse by an unethical trainer (who he learns is switching track practice times with a slower horse). New owner learns this from a chance meeting with the beautiful young trainer who was swindled into buying the slow horse. But never fear, daddy had a "clone" of Secretariat that he also gives to the same son.
Now new owner gets "accidentally" involved with the mob but wins Mob boss, Vince, over with a hair-raising fishing trip. Oh, and don't forget new owner's psycho girlfriend who tries several times to kill new owner (never quite succeeding, however). And in the end the new owner outsmarts the swindling horse trainer, the rich and powerful sheik, the mob, his psycho girlfriend, and gets both horses back. Too much of a silly Cinderella fairytale for me.

Secretariat Reborn A Christian Roberts Thriller Susan Klaus Books Reviews
Loved this book! Susan Klaus writes a thriller that you will not be able to put down. Her local Florida knowledge and then her hands-on equine knowledge are exceptional!! A MUST READ!!!
Like protagonist Christian Roberts, I found myself chewing on my nails. Why? Because the author made the glamorous and sometimes seamy world of horse racing come alive for me by merging the realms of a famous Triple Crown Winner and the "what if" possibilities of present day cloning. And does anyone else think that they should try to cast Chris Hemsworth when this book makes it to Hollywood? It's a no-brainer.
This author has the ability to absorb the reader in her story and hold that interest until the end. I have already purchased the next book in her Christian Robert Series and a looming foreword to the read
Christian has no idea what he's in for when a visit to his dying father results in him owning one racehorse and needing to come up with the money to finish paying for another special racehorse - Secretariat's clone. From that moment on, he's on a rollercoaster ride of events from the racetracks of Florida to the Gulf waters dealing with mobsters, sheiks and shady horse trainers. The story will keep you guessing with all the twists and turns, but it makes for a fun ride.
It is an okay story, but mostly romance and adventure. More about relationships than about horse racing and Secretariat. Good plot but characters are not particularly believable. Works as an escape read.
This story has it all - fascinating characters, adventure, intrigue, danger, humor, passion and compassion. Susan Klaus brings her personal experiences in the world of thoroughbred horse racing and her knowledge of southwest Florida and weaves a captivating tale that grabs you from page one and holds on to you all the way to the end. A thoroughly enjoyable read!!
What if? This beautifully written novel of horse racing meets science, kept me asking that very question. This action-packed novel not only holds your attention but also gives you an incredible history of horse-racing and the ins and outs of it as if you were standing in the grandstands knowing all that there is to gain and lose at this high-stakes sport. You’ll deeply realize the intricacies of horse racing, breeding, their care, and you'll get a true appreciation for these beautiful animals, even if you had no prior knowledge. But this book also shares the love for the once small beach town turned affluent mini-city of Sarasota, Florida and its neighboring country town of Myakka.
Klaus’s thoughtful characters portray the diverse crowd that exists today in Sarasota; ranging from the social climber Kate, the mobster Vince, and country loving Allie, and Christian who is somewhere in between---an ethical and handsome protagonist whose education and background from his parents and his love of all things Florida gives him a deep appreciation for what Florida offers both for its the country life and the coastal one.
A must read! Hold on!
