What a fun read! Short, but definitely relatable. Who wouldn't hope that Death would choose someone else...anyone else? And who wouldn't struggle with remorse at the outcome? Mr. Bell captures these feelings and emotions in a remarkably detailed vignette, making the story seem much more than a short peek into Halloween evening.

The Man at the Fence edition by Jackson Spencer Bell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Genuinely scary! The real-deal. A short story that will give you goose bumps! The action takes place on Halloween evening, at a playground, with all the youngsters decked out as goblins and devils. But there seems to be a truly creepy character, an adult in a macabre costume, by the fence. The young teen mother sees something dark and even evil about him as he leans at the fence, watching the costumed children. It dawns on her that the setting could be a perfect scenario for a child predator...and she gathers her son close to her. Then, she seems to hear his thoughts. But is it just her imagination? I'll stop at this point....I'm not giving any spoilers!
This is real life stuff, here. It twists at the end. Good story. His other books and stories are worth a read, as well.
In this short story, a teenage mother goes to a Halloween Festival and meets what is (or is not?) the Grim Reaper amongst all the partygoers. Only she can see him, but he seems to be having an effect on everyone around him. A kind of creepy tension builds and is released at the end. Bell writes in an active and engaging way that is easy to read but still absorbing. It didn't hurt that everybody knows somebody like Brandy--probably two or three somebodies. While I don't think I'd ever pay more than 99 cents for a short story, this one is definitely worth it. I recommend it.
IT MADE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. NO PLOT,NO DEFINED CHARACTERS, NO NOTHING,. THERE WAS NOTHING,TO REEL THE READER IN AND KEEP THEM INTERESTED OR READINGπŸ˜πŸ˜žπŸ˜’πŸ˜”
Moral If you ever see a man wearing a cloak. Run! Because the chances are, he's not selling Bacon Chap Stick and Indie Books (Good Read).
Jackson is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. His stories are engaging from beginning to end. His characters are real and have great appeal. And there is always a great twist.
